The cottage is a charming 1860s villa, tucked away across the paddock from us at the homestead, yet close enough for you to say hello if you want to, and to see the comings and goings of the farm.
This lovely old house was once a section of the original Flaxbourne station homestead. Amazingly it was moved across the paddock on logs to its current location in 1924.
The Cottage sleeps up to twelve people. It’s perfect for family getaways or groups of friends, however it’s also lovely for smaller groups. Cottage Accomodation is $150 per night for up to two people, plus $50 per night per additional person.
To book the entire cottage is $450 per night (sleeps up to 12 people). The upstairs stairway is original, quaint and steep and therefore may not be suitable for small children.
Whether you’re interested in one day walks, overnight excursions, or simple relaxation, you’ll find it here.
Just beyond the farm gate there are plenty of other things to do in the area, including the well-known Saw Cut Gorge walk, visiting Yealands CarboNZeroCERT™ winery or the Lake Grassmere salt works. We’re just 40 minutes drive from Blenheim for a wine trail, or 1 hour to Kaikoura for Whale watching (make sure you visit the baby seals at Ohau point on your way). The Store at Kekerangu is the perfect spot to grab a coffee with a view just 15 minutes away.
When you book or enquire, let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll make activity recommendations to suit.
The history of this house and its family is fascinating
The history of this house and its family is fascinating and illustrated with photos on the hallway wall. The house itself is set in its own garden on the farm and is very private. The main rooms and bedrooms are very comfortable although the kitchen would benefit from updating. The coastal views from adjacent hills are probably stunning but we didn’t do the long climb up the hills, instead we drove the 3km down the road to Ward Beach which was charming. We had a great time.

Fantastic spot, exactly like the pictures.
